I'm Alejandro Companioni, an ML engineer in Miami. I've spent over 15 years building models that actually have to work — recommenders, LLM agents, operational models — in a variety of messy domains where being wrong costs someone real money.

I currently drive ML product development at Not Diamond, an AI infrastructure startup. Previous stops include: Spotify, Stitch Fix, Devoted Health, iHeartRadio, and the Federal Reserve. At parties, people tell me this list sounds really cool before they slink away.

I only write about professional things on this site: technical and algorithmic posts, as well as theses on strategy for product and applied research. Outside of those things I play lots of tennis, cook and mix drinks, and help my wife chase our two sons around the backyard. All of this happens in Miami, Florida, unless we're not there.
